Notes
For the purposes of this collection, the Middle East was deemed to stretch from Egypt, including at that time Sudan, in the West to Afghanistan in the East. References to Aden can be found in the subset for the British Empire (ref. R19012), while cuttings relating to Turkey appear mostly in the subset for Europe (ref. R19000), under Balkan states. Cuttings relating to the countries of the Maghreb have been included with Africa (ref. R19006).
