Visions for the Future of Scotland, 1844-1973

Collection: Scottish Nationalist Leaflets, 1844-1973    Volumes    Visions for the Future of Scotland, 1844-1973
Over the decades, many Scottish authors have explored the question of how an independent Scotland could actually be made to work. These pamphlets reveal the answers that many of them explored. An independent Scotland has been viewed as an opportunity for renewal, for the Scottish constitution and industry alike. These items commence with more general visions for what an independent Scotland would look like, before exploring the principles upon which an independent Scotland could form its constitution. The more detailed pamphlets explore various aspects of an independent Scottish Government's potential remit, from industry to the economy, education and science. A number of the pamphlets included here were written to address numerous questions about whether home rule could actually work, in a list-type format. Visions of independence from the Scottish Liberal party also feature, as do a few items on visions for devolution.
