A Brief History of The Illustrated London News, 1842–2003 Videos

To celebrate the launch of this extraordinary new collection, join our Editorial Assistant, Chloe Haney, as she dives into the 150 year history of The Illustrated London News (ILN) — the longest running weekly illustrated newspaper in British history.

From the ILN’s first edition to its last, the paper offered its readers a visual account of a wide range of topics and events, both British and otherwise. The history of the ILN is a fascinating backdrop to this influential publication.

In this video, Chloe explores this history, covering the story of the ILN’s foundation, the untimely death of its founder, Herbert Ingram, and the subsequent movement of the paper’s ownership through his family, through to the end of the ILN’s run.

Visit the collection’s landing page to find out more about this collection.
