Pesach (Passover)

Today (15/04/2022) marks the first day of Passover, the celebration of the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt, as told in the Bible. To commemorate the Exodus, in which Moses led the Israelites away from persecution in Egypt, Jewish people partake in two ritual feasts called Seders, during which the story of the holiday is told. Matzah, or unleavened bread, iseaten as a reminder that there was no time to let bread rise when fleeing Egyptduring the Exodus. For the next 8 days, Jewish People are not allowed to eat anything with grain that has risen.

British Online Archives would like to wish all those partaking in the Passover festival a peaceful and joyful time!
