BOA is looking for an Editorial Assistant!

British Online Archives (BOA) is one of the UK’s leading academic publishers and online repositories. Hosting over five million digital records, carefully selected from private and public archives, such as The National Archives (UK) and British Library, BOA’s specially curated collections cover over 500 years of world history.

Organised thematically, these collections provide invaluable source material for those working in a range of disciplines, including history, politics, sociology, and international relations. Our unique digital holdings offer insights into global historical events and trends, typically through a British lens. They serve to broaden our understanding of history, and help us to make sense of contemporary social, cultural, economic, and political landscapes.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and diligent Editorial Assistant to join our team. The successful applicant will have plenty of opportunities for creativity, research, and academic engagement.

Reporting to our Senior Editor, the job holder will contribute to our editorial workflows, particularly the production, editing, and proofing of all written material required for release/publication. You will also organise and upload primary source images, as well as build marketing materials. In addition, you will help to ensure that forthcoming collections are progressing in-line with the company’s publication schedule. You will likewise contribute written pieces periodically. As part of the editorial team, you will also be required to contribute to the workflows of our content team, including periodic archival scoping trips.

Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or higher. They will be passionate about the study of history and enjoy engaging with archival documentation. They will likewise have excellent written communication and proofreading skills.

This post is available on a full time basis of between 28–35 hours per week. It will be primarily remote, however, the successful candidate may need to attend our office in central Leeds as and when required. Occasionally, they will also be required to work at archives around the UK (necessary travel and accommodation will be reimbursed).

This could be an extract from an essay (preferably the introductory section) that you have submitted, or perhaps from an article that you have published online, such as a blog post. Ideally, your sample of written work should contain at least two to three footnotes/endnotes. Please submit it as a .pdf file.
