Notes
This publication is the result of a collaborative project with libraries across the United Kingdom. Based largely on the collection deposited on permanent loan with the University College London in 1960 by the author's widow on behalf of the George Orwell Archive Trust, it brings together the most comprehensive body of research material relating to George Orwell (1903-1950) anywhere.
Among its treasures are uncovered documents tracing the development of some of the most famous works of English literature in the 20th century, including 1984 and Animal Farm. Of equal importance are papers describing Orwell's experiences and views of the British Empire and of Europe at war, not to mention his correspondence with such prominent literary and political figures of the age as T.S. Eliot, Arthur Koestler, Emma Goldman, Victor Gollancz and George Woodcock.
Accompanied by an introductory guide by Professor Peter Davison (ISBN 1851170405), this unique corpus of Orwelliana comprises manuscripts and typescripts, literary notebooks, Spanish Civil War material, personal documents, general notebooks, political and domestic diaries, and correspondence.
Further examples of Orwell's journalism can be found in the microfilm edition of the Tribune (ref. R97607).
