Notes
The collection consists of the papers of Sir Robert Liston (1742-1836), diplomat and owner of Millburn Tower in Edinburgh and the letters and journals of his wife, Henrietta Liston (1752-1828). The papers are a vaulable source of information regarding the British Mission to America from 1796 to 1800. They also reveal a great deal about Liston's friendship with President George Washington and his wife, Martha. From the National Library of Scotland. Introduction by Dr. Clare Taylor, Institute of Historical Research, University of London.
