Notes

Covers the period 1299-1912. Until the 19th century the Diocese of Norwich covered Norfolk and Suffolk and was divided into four archdeaconries. This collection comprises and almost unbroken record of the non-administrative activities of the bishops of Norwich, sometimes known as "Institution books" because one of the main types of business recorded were the institutions to benefices. Accompanied by Tanner's index of the registers, which includes lists of the incumbents from the earliest known in the Diocese, arranged in heirarchical order by archdeaconry, deanery and parish.
From Ipswich and East Suffolk Record Office.
