Notes
Covers 1838-1852. Founded in 1838 by Feargus O'Connor in Leeds as the organ of the Chartist Movement. The seditious libels of O'Connor in the Star led to his imprisonment in 1840, after which circulation declined, and the paper and moved to London. It enjoyed a temporary revival in 1848.
The title changed several times to: The Northern star and national trades' journal, from 1844 to March 1852; then The Star and national trades' journal, from March to May 1852; and finally to The Star of freedom, until publication ceased.
