Notes

The C/CAN/NFL series comprises documents dating from 1787. However, because Newfoundland was administered by the SPG as part of Nova Scotia until 1839, when it became a diocese in its own right many early records may also be found in the C/CAN/NS series.
Box C/CAN/NS/16 comprises the papers of the Venerable Edward Wix while archdeacon of Newfoundland between 1828 and 1838. Other NFL sub-series include the papers of the first bishop of Newfoundland and later of Jamaica, Aubrey G. Spencer, and those of Edward Feild, the diocese's second bishop from 1844-1850.
Also reproduced in this collection are a number of documents relating to Bermuda, which originally formed part of the province of Newfoundland although, during the 1960s, most of the Bermuda papers were separated from this series.
The USPG archive is now held at the Rhodes House Library, Oxford.
