The James Brown papers, 1809-1898

Collection: Slave Trade Records from Liverpool, 1754-1792    Volumes    The James Brown papers, 1809-1898
This small supplementary collection, also held at the record office in Liverpool, relates to the period following the abolition of the slave trade, in particular the transatlantic shipping of James Brown (ca. 1807-1851) in 1840s and early 1850s, but including a few papers belonging presumably to his father and son, who both bore the same name. The papers remained in the possession of the Brown family until they were presented to the Liverpool City Libraries by K.A. Brown Esq. on 23 February 1942, are accompanied by an introduction to the collection by John Rowe, formerly University of Liverpool.
