Manor court books for Newton

Collection: The Church of England and Social Change in Manchester, 1635-1928    Volumes    Manor court books for Newton

This volume includes the Cathedral's surviving manor court books, covering the periods 1775–1837 and 1843–1914. These documents record the proceedings of the manor court sessions. The documents include lists of offences, such as non-attendance, encroachments, not maintaining rights of way, and putting geese onto the common without a "yoak". This volume is useful both for tracking residency patterns in Manchester and for studying the maintenance of roads and bridges in a rapidly developing city.
