Collection: Communism and Popular Culture in the 20th Century    Volumes    Material and memorabilia from the theatre scene (ii), 1924-1979

In line with another of Montagu's many passions, these items consist of programmes and memorabilia from theatres, both existent and demolished, during the 20th century. Despite theatre being one of the more 'bourgeois' pursuits, it seems as though Montagu could not shake his upper-class upbringing and held a lifelong interest in theatre. This volume documents the impressive array of shows that he attended, from performances by the Classical Theatre of the People's Republic of China, to the Bolshoi Theatre of the Soviet Union.
