Miscellaneous correspondence, cultural works and political files and memoirs, 1925-1977

Collection: Communism and Popular Culture in the 20th Century    Volumes    Miscellaneous correspondence, cultural works and political files and memoirs, 1925-1977

These records include correspondence regarding both potential and actual publications by Montagu, Dobb, Ehrenburg and other communist authors. Material relating to the debate between Montagu and R. Palme Dutt on whether Britain should go to war with Germany, the Israel-Palestine question, the pre-war indictment of the German Communist Party leader by the Nazi government and the post-war congress for peace paint a vivid picture of the debates surrounding the Second World War. Additionally, this volume features papers relating to Montagu's potential candidacy for the Hammersmith Constituency in 1951. Translations of 100 Chinese "peace poems" are located alongside a book on the subject of teaching singing.
