Collection: Establishing the Post-War International Order, 1944–1961 Volumes Records relating to the Bretton Woods Conference & system, 1944-1951
The Bretton Woods Conference, formally referred to as the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, took place in July 1944 at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. The conference brought together delegates from 44 nations with a view to creating a series of rules to govern the post-war international monetary system. The resulting Bretton Woods Agreement established such a framework among Western nations.
This volume contains records from five British government departments—the Board of Trade, Cabinet Office, Dominions Office, Foreign Office, and Treasury—produced during the period 1944–1951. Subjects covered include bilateral and multilateral discussions and negotiations between the UK and other nations, as well as the foundation and activities of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
