Britain Under Threat: The Bethnal Green Tube Disaster Videos

The Bethnal Green tube disaster was the largest loss of civilian life in the UK during the Second World War.

Dr Charlie Hall tells the story whilst highlighting the inquiry report that was conducted after the tragedy, which can be found in our new collection. The report reveals shortcomings in civil defence procedures, as well as deeply prejudiced attitudes as people looked for a scapegoat.

You can view the documents featured in this video in our new collection, Britain Under Threat: Civil Defence in the Era of Total War, 1914–1989.
